The Dame Tips for Fabulous Living: July Edition

A monthly guest series by wntta's resident Don Draper: an elegant hedonist who suffers no fools, The Dame herself, writer Ali Schofield.

While I’m all for the outdoor drinking that comes with warm weather, I hold the unpopular opinion of not being a ‘summer person’. Despite having lived in Africa, I never long for the film of sweat that covers one’s body when the mercury rises above 30 degrees. Don’t hold it against me – I am just one of those people for whom being naked is never enough to cool down during a heatwave (and most patios require you to wear more than a smile.) Despite my personal feelings, here are a few tips for living fabulously this month.

  1. Experiment with tequila cocktails. Loves, if you only drink tequila on Cinco de Mayo or if it the mere mention conjures a pucker and the memory of an ill-fated night at Uniun, I beg of you, try drinking it like an adult. Shaken over ice with St-Germaine, pomegranate juice and lemon, a good reposado tequila will deliver a nice buzz made even better in the sun (even I think so.)

  2. Say goodbye to Boomerang. The way I see it, Boomerang is an attempt to make something interesting out of something that… isn’t. Instead of trying to capture your cheers just right, why not lock eyes with your dear ones like you’re supposed to and drink up already? Besides, if you want people to think you’re having a fabulous time, mystery is the way to go.

  3. Remember, if you have a body and you visit a beach, you have a beach body. It may come off as trite to say that confidence is the sexiest thing a person can wear, but it’s trite for a reason! Who gives a fuck what anyone else thinks? Slap on that swimsuit and dig your toes into the sand - you deserve just as much vitamin D as the next person, and as I’ve already mentioned, it’s just too fucking hot for clothes.
